Virginia is for Phat Beats

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Travel

As one of the centers of contemporary democracy, Virginia has a fantastic history.  This is where some of the most important events in the formation of our political system occurred, and it is still a lively center for new historical events, that will have to wait to be written.  The contributions of Native American, African, and European civilizations and cultures have all added to the formation and continuation of Virginia’s spectacular legacies.  Today, it’s a place to see historical sights, enjoy a stunning array of natural wonders, and to see how cultures are enacting themselves artistically in the world right now.  There’s a lot to see and do in Virginia.  Luxury hotels are a great way to begin your journey here.

You’ll very likely get used to the sensational feeling of splendor when you fall asleep and wake up in the sumptuous surroundings.   The accommodations are designed to speak to Virginia’s complex history and contemporary sensibilities.  You could spend all your time here enjoying the amenities of the lodgings, or even hole up with the one you love and enjoy the solitude, but there’s an awful lot to see outside the hotel walls too.  If you’re looking for a night on the town that might include some dancing in an urban setting, look out for Richmond-based Joanna O. and Jessie Split.

They’ve been playing together and apart in the tri-state area for over ten years, and have a great wealth of knowledge between them.  They’re also fantastic dj’s, with a wealth of beats and musical sensibilities, and are able to move shows in multiple directions.  Together they started a new venture, Turnstyle Soundsystem, a boutique that sells vinyl and streetwear, and they are always busy making important contributions to the soundscape at large, as well as putting a lot of time and energy into lifting the local flavors into something that’s delightful.

Sea Turtles on a Kaui Vacation

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Animals, Travel

Sea turtles are a beautiful species for their mild nature.   Many, many, many years ago, there was a vast expanse of turtle species on the earth, but due to hunting and environmental problems, they have been vastly reduced.  About seven species exist today.   Further, each one of those species is thought to be in danger of extinction.  Though the girl turtles might hatch 100 eggs or more, a majority of these little hatchling turtles do not survive because the eggs have often been used for food, of because the turtles are young and rather defenseless to predators—both natural, sharks, and unnatural, boats—many do not survive for many hours after their life began.

Lanai travel deals afford amateur marine biologists the chance to see these dwindling creatures.  People possess the opportunity to see the leatherback, green and hawksbill sea turtles.  All three of them are indigenous to the islands, but are more likely to spot the green turtle species.  It is the most prevalent among the islands.   Their diet consists mostly of plants.  Seaweed and algae are a popular form of sustenance for them.  Most of their life is in the ocean.  They prefer to be coral reefs or other rocky and rough areas that are near to the coast line.

The turtles from Hawaii may come back from over hundreds of miles of ocean to lay their eggs there again.  It is believed among the scientific community that these animals go back to their birth place in order to give lay their eggs.  Most of the beaches that the turtles go to lay their eggs are in the northwest parts of the islands.   Whoever their mate is for the season will typically come along for the long journey home.   When they get back to their home and on the beaches again, these creatures actually start to cry.  It is an internal mechanism to rid their body of all the slat from the water that they have accumulated.  It also helps them to keep out the sand.

The female green turtle can take as long as a night or more to lay her eggs.  It is a difficult effort due to the fact that they have only their flippers to dig a proper nest.  Though they might come back to check up on the nest, the fragile eggs are mostly on their own.  Kauai travel or Oahu vacation packages are an easy way of seeing the little creatures hatch.  There are places that offer chances to see the turtles hatch and offer even more information on this beautiful species.

Taking My Girl Friend to New Orleans for Halloween

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Travel

My girl friend is such a fanatic for Halloween. She likes other holidays, but Halloween is her holiday. She always goes all out with the costuming and decorating. She is so into it that on our way home from the Halloween event we just attended she is talking about what she wants to do next year and what costume she is thinking about making.

Being very creative she always designs makes and sew all her own costumes. Some years we bar hop to all the contests and usually she wins them, these years have help pay for her costuming. Other years we go to parties at friends, haunted houses where ever we end up. This year I have a surprise fro her, I am going to take her to New Orleans for the weekend. I found us a nice room in luxury hotels New Orleans French Quarter. We will be there from Friday morning through to Sunday afternoon. Fortunately Halloween is on Saturday this year so it won’t require taking any time off work for this trip and it will fit into her schedule without any problem.

Saturday night we will go on a haunted walking tour of the French Quarter. I know she will love that, being in New Orleans on a haunted tour on Halloween! I do not know if it gets any better than this, at least for her. I’ll have to break the exciting news and tell her the surprise latter today so she can get things together over the next couple days before we leave.

This year her costume is going to be perfect for New Orleans, a Louis the IVX courtier, perfect for an evening in New Orleans any time of year but particularly for Halloween. This will be a year she long remembers and might be best getting on thinking up something to top this.

Outdoor Activity in Austin

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Animals, Travel

There are many things to do in Austin, Texas that are free of charge and many of them involve the beauty of nature, and if one is in the city at this time of year, they will have the experience of the perfect weather for outdoor fun.  Zilker Park is one of my favorite places of the city.  There I once rented a canoe and had a floating picnic, rode in a miniature railroad car, and of course, saw a great live show at the bandstand.  Others were playing either soccer or volleyball on one of the many courts that are located throughout the park.

The best of Austin hotels are located near by, and it is easily accessible from all parts of the city.  The botanical gardens of Zilker are located within the park as well and take up just over twenty acres of land.  Upon entering one will find that the gardens are sectioned off.  There is a rose and azalea garden, as well as a succulent and cactus garden, the butterfly garden and the herb and fragrance garden.  These are all laid out amongst waterfalls and ponds filled with lily pads.

Outside too, are the deep Eddy Pools.  This is a place to go when you want to swim in waters naturally occurring from the artesian well.  There are deep areas to the large pools for those wishing to dive, and shallow areas for those traveling with children.  There is also access for those in wheelchairs, but it is best to call ahead to be certain that there will be staff there to assist.

The Austin Duck tours was fun, and kind of funny.  This is a guided tour that will take you throughout the city to the locations of historical importance.  The vehicle for the tour is the funny part.  It seats forty five people, and is an amphibious military vehicle, whatever that means.  It was just big and kind of silly looking.  Regardless of the means of exploring the city, one really must get out into nature, especially when visiting Austin, Texas at this time of year.

Friends Visit Bollywood in Mumbai

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Travel

About three years ago my husband and I took a vacation with two other couples to India. We all had such an amazing time even though each of us had our own main interest and favorite attraction, landmark or activity. However, the one thing we all agreed on was how great the food was. We all loved it and tried to plan as many full group dinners as possible. This doesn’t seem like it would be easy, since we were all interested in different things, but it was so important to us to spend time together and we loved the food so much we decided it was worth it to plan around.

The city we spent the most time in was Mumbai. We all stayed in one of the Mumbai hotels and love the accommodations. While we were there we mixed dinner and breakfast plans and sometimes we all met for one meal or the other. Lunch was the only meal that we did or own thing on since we were all in various places. My favorite meal had to be North Indian tandoori and though I wanted to try everything, I ordered this regularly. One of the women with us is a vegetarian and all of the places worked out well for her. She had cashew nut with vegetables most of the time, though she too wanted to try as much as she could.

Everyone tried something new and in general we shared our food. My husband loved the kabobs and seafood was popular with most of us. The one thing we all did together in Mumbai occurred on our third day there. We had all had breakfast together and two people, I don’t remember now whom, brought up the local film industry. I didn’t realize this but Mumbai has largest film industry in India. The local industry is referred to as Bollywood and two people from our group brought this up. It sounded incredibly interesting to my husband and me and we all decided to tour the studios that day. Overall, we loved our trip so much and had such a great time that at the end of it we vowed that we would do it again in ten years.

Political Corruption in Afghanistan Elections

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Crime

Political corruption is the cancer of a society.  It breaks down the fiber of the economy, the moral of the people and the reputation of any given country wherein the leaders go about conduction their transactions in immoral and unjust ways.  This happens in the form of bribery and favors, in the prevention of the citizens access to the voting booths and in paying off politicians for votes and signatures on legislative bills.

One such case was recently investigated by the United Nations, and involve and election in Afghanistan that was suspected of being fraudulent and corrupted.  The investigative team spent hours late into the night last Thursday in the attempts to determining if a runoff election is necessary.  The suspicion lies within the fact that some of the polling stations reported a one hundred percent turnout of voters, which is highly unlikely in any political election, as well as the majority of those votes votes going to particular and singular clients.

Over three thousand stations were audited last Thursday, and these numbers are still be added up and analyzed, and individual cases of fraud are also being investigated.  Most analysts agree that it is most likely that there will be a runoff election in about two weeks, but the impending winter snow storms and the public unrest and the public insecurities may cause low attendance at the polls.

This is one of the many effects of political corruption, people will waver on the edge of just giving up.  Government officials state that both sides, the current President Hamid Karzai and his contender Abdullah Abdullah, should be willing to agree to a re-election.  In this way, to agree to this would serve to reinstate the public confidence and the reputation of the Government of Afghanistan and to the legitimacy of the character of current President Karzai.

Williamsburg – colonial village and bay

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Travel

Growing up my grand parent would take vacations driving south from out home town in the mid Hudson valley in New York state. One place they returned to over and over again and always liked to talk about was Colonial Williamsburg.
Colonial Williamsburg is a working museum village where people reenact life in colonial America. Visitors to the village can see how  textiles were woven, farms were planted, candles dipped, soap, clock and brooms made and virtually every other aspect of colonial American life. I remember seeing the photos my grandfather took there of parades in the square, women in colonial dress taking care of their houses and engaging in the arts and crafts of the day. It was all very fascinating to me as a child looking at the photos and hearing the stories.

This year I finally decided to make plans and go to Williamsburg and see for myself. Booking a room at hotels Williamsburg near the village was the first step. I wish I know where my grandparents use to stay when they were there, that would be really cool to stay there to, but alas I know not.

My visit there was a lot of fun and full of information of course. i spent two days at colonial Williamsburg and really gained an appreciation for out modern life. They had to work awfully hard in the 17th century, but there is a charm to it to that we are missing today… Anyway, it was a very informative two days there.

The rest of the time there I took some drives along the Chesapeake Bay. Enjoying some beach combing and taking pictures of the scenery. I had not ever realized the proximity of Williamsburg to the bay, it was a pleasant surprise when I noticed this when planning the trip and then knew it would be necessary to plan for time to see the bay and some of the surrounding area.

Broken Heart Mended in Vienna

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Travel

My best friend won a trip to Vienna, Austria in a work lottery. As one of the year’s top staff members for a given month she was entered into this annual drawing, which always included a trip to another country. Why this is important to me, other than simply being happy and excited for my friend, is that she invited me to go along on the trip with her. And unfortunately for her, but luckily for me, she had just recently broken up with her boyfriend before winning the trip. And not surprisingly, he heard from a friend that she had won it, and predictably called to try reunite. And if that weren’t bad enough, when she turned him down he asked if she would take him to Vienna with her anyway, as a consolation prize I believe he said.

So, that’s enough talk about him. The trip was absolutely amazing and Annie, my friend, and I had a great time. We stayed in one of the hotels Vienna Austria that was located in an old building. Vienna is a beautiful city that actually dates back to around 500 BC. It’s difficult to imagine that amount of time, though it is easier when you’re standing in the middle of a city like Vienna. The incredible historic architecture definitely gives a sense of wonder and context. It is actually extremely humbling to be standing in such an historic city and to be surrounded by such great buildings. It has also played an important political role throughout much of history.

One of the things we did while we were there, other than eat incredible food of course, was to see a production at the Burgtheater , which is also an amazing building that dates back to the middle of the 18th century. One of the most exciting things that occurred that night was that we happened to sit next to two extremely good looking and nice Viennese men. We started talking at the intermission and really hit it off. They ended up serving as excellent tour guides for the rest of our stay, and also great dates. Thanks to them, Annie didn’t give a second thought to her lousy ex-boyfriend throughout our trip. We still keep in touch through email, and hope to return the favor when they visit the States.

Tips for Increasing Your Home’s Value

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Home & Garden

In the past buying and selling a house was a fairly simple process.  However with the housing market in its current slump and no rise in the foreseeable future, going the extra mile to impress potential buyers could make the difference in whether or not they decide to buy.  Whether you hope to sell now or a year from now, there are a few things you can do to increase your home’s value and entice buyers.

The first thing that a potential buyer is going to see when they arrive at your house is the outside.  Updating the landscaping is a quick and easy way to make your house look more inviting.  Also a fresh coat of paint is an inexpensive way to freshen up your house and make it more appealing.

The inside of your house is very important as well. A fresh coat of paint on the inside can also go a long way towards improving your home’s appearance.  Most people prefer neutral colors, so try and stay away from anything to wild or bright.  Looking through home décor magazines and websites can also give you some fresh new ideas about furniture arrangement.   If you have some time before you plan to sell, custom- made blinds are a good investment in terms of your home’s appearance and value.  Next Day Blinds offers a variety of styles to fit any décor.  Next Day Blinds also offers competitive pricing so you can stay within your budget.  With custom-made window treatments from Next Day Blinds Virginia, Maryland or Washington D.C, criticisms will not be heard as potential buyers are wowed by the finished look they bring.

An important thing to remember is that not all improvements are cosmetic.  Hiring an inspector to come out and look your home over is a quick way to discover any problems you aren’t aware of.  That way if there are any problems you have time to repair them before you go into escrow.

Because this is a buyer’s market, it is even more important that sellers take every opportunity they can to increase the value and selling potential of their home.

Excellent Customer Service in an Automated System

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Business

While excellent customer service perspectives and intentions seem to be based on simple respect and concern for a client, as technology progresses and continues to make advancements in communication and the way business is conducted, philosophies and approaches to customer service  are also becoming more diverse. With different structures to businesses and various automated systems, the best ways to attract a potential or serve a current costumer are also up for debate. A basic example of this is based on whether or not it is easier and more efficient for a client to interact with an automated phone system or to speak directly to a human on the other end of the line. One of the more popular beliefs regarding these options is that a choice is given to the consumer and if the automated system is not serving their needs they are able to connect to a person. Now more than at any other time in history are questions such as these affecting professional views on excellent customer service. And with a continually shrinking global market, businessmen such as  Steve Barbarich are aware of structural differences to businesses, though they remain strong that the fundamental aspects of excellent customer service remain rooted in the satisfaction of the consumer.

As in the past, strong costumer service skills originate with the first meeting between business and consumer. It remains a guaranteed that an initial helpful and friendly face will help to create a positive first encounter and this will usually dominate the course of the rest of the service or purchase transaction. Every member of a company’s staff, but most importantly those that deal directly with the customer, should be aware of the most important questions a customer could ask and have in their immediate knowledge an appropriate and informed answer. Staff people that do interact with customers should always be willing to answer questions and consider this a an essential aspect of the service. Consumers are always aware of a staff person who is simply putting in their time and those who are genuinely interested in assisting them with their questions and purchases.

Boy Crazy in Ibiza

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Travel

It’s my last day here in Ibiza and I’m so happy that it’s sunny! Yay! When I woke up this morning, around 10am, by-the-way, I didn’t get to sleep until 5am! Hee Hee. Anyways, I decided to grab a nice huge breakfast and then head into town to do my trinket shopping, you know, presents to bring back and give to all my friends and family. After that, I’ll need to check out of my Ibiza Town hotel and see what bus I need to take to get to the airport.

After I got back from shopping, I headed straight for the beach and caught some last minute rays. It was time for lunch, so I went to this little Italian restaurant that was right next to my hotel and had spaghetti and meatballs. It was probably the best spaghetti and meatballs that I’ve ever tasted, and it was cheap. I then walked up the strip in the opposite direction of town. But, it was so hot! So, I headed back to my hotel and took a nap for a couple of hours. I woke up in enough time to shower, changed clothes and packed. I checked out and caught the bus to the airport. While at the airport, I met up with this really cute guy from London. He was in Ibiza for a month and was staying with a friend. He was on the same flight as me, so we decided to grab a bite to eat since we had so much time before our flight.

We got on the airplane and he hooked up with two other buddies he partied with while he was in Ibiza, so he went off to sit with them. Oh well, I met so many guys while I was in Ibiza, I’m sure there will be more.

The Constant Diligence of the US Patriot Act

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Crime, Government

The US Patriot Act was conceived in the months following the terrorist attacks in New York City, and one of the missions of the Act is to banish any means of the funding of terrorist cells, through the money laundering activities funneled through the financial institutions of the United States.  They serve to cooperate with and to inform the companies and the banking systems of the rules and the regulations, the policies and the procedures, and the laws that serve not only to stop cases of corruption and the laundering of money, but to protect the institutions themselves from being unknowingly taken advantage of.

Shell banks are usually foreign banks which have remained apart from and regulations, and the risk that these institutions pose, as far as the occurrences of terrorist financing and money laundering, on the rest of the world is great.  The US Patriot Act works to prevent these banks from having any contact or transactions with the American banking system, at all.  It is against the law for brokers and banks to deal with any business that does not have a presence that is a physical entity.

The American banks must take every precaution that they can to ensure that accounts held at their offices are not connecting to those that service and do business with these shell banks.  Law enforcement agencies have been given more authority over the methods and the means in which to ensure this as well.  They are focused on the identification and disruption of money laundering rings, in and effort to prevent such activities, and those surrounding the funding of terrorism.  The regulators, the institutions themselves and the various enforcement agencies have come together to cooperate and to share any information with regards to the people and/or the organizations that are committing these crimes.
