The Kettering Clean-Up Along the Ise River

Kettering is getting a facelift.  Different projects are underway in the British town that involve a cleaning up of the environment.  One of those projects has been under the care of the volunteer organization called Natural Ise.  Those who love nature, made up citizens of Grange and the Ise Lodge estates located close to the business and Kettering hotel district, are taking it upon themselves to clean up the area surrounding the Ise River, including the river itself.

When the environment and the river are both cleaner, the area is nice for the people who live in the area and for those travel through on holiday.  The parks surrounding the river are beautiful and the people of Kettering have taken to making sure that is stays that way.  A week ago, more than ten people volunteered picking up the trash and the rubbish along the banks and in the river using boats and dinghies along the water.

The clean up took place from the bridge at Deeble Road and worked up the river to Warkton.  One of the volunteers stated that throughout the summer, many children on break from school are responsible for littering that collects along the river.  This is an area that is popular in Kettering for those out for a run, or a dog walk or a bike trip along the banks, and the trash takes away from the natural beauty.  The group formed after a talk given by Dr. Robin Frost, that concerned creating safer environments for communities along the River Nene Park Region.

Frost implored the people of Kettering that now was the time to clean up their river and parks.  Throughout the month the volunteers plan on conducting surveys relating to the biodiversity of the plants and animals along the river, as well as further conservation efforts.  They plan to restock the river with fish, and to set up boxes that will capture insects and species of birds for matter of study and then re-release.
