Sheffield Green City
One of the eight largest cities outside London is Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. This metropolitan borough boasts a large industrial conglomerate that greatly enhances the economic status here. It is an ancient city dating back more than 13,000 years and has had tremendous growth in the last couple centuries. Iron and steel are the major industries, with coal mining also a big economic contributor. From the black coal and cold, hard metal to high-end department stores and posh boutiques with outlandish designer labels and price tags, this all makes up Sheffield.
With over two million trees, more trees per person than any other European city, there is over 61% greenspace here. The numerous parks, woodlands and gardens make this a green paradise and an ideal home for many species of wildlife. Cricket, golf, climbing, skiing, basketball, rugby, snooker, ice-skating and ice hockey are some of the popular sports with talented athletes and avid, devoted fans. The many modern facilities and arenas give ample availability to all. In 1991, the World Student Games were hosted by Sheffield.
Music is extremely prevalent with many famous names and bands getting their start here, such as Def Leppard and Joe Crocker. There are fabulous museums, orchestras and choirs for your enjoyment. Visit the Lyceum and Crucible Theatres and let yourself be drawn into the comedy or tragedy of the current production by the talented and dedicated actors, or visit the art galleries. Several films, plays and documentaries have been based here. So much to see and so much to do.
Whether you are here for business or pleasure, your stay long or short, Sheffield hotels offer you the comfort and relaxation you are looking for. The staff is friendly and helpful, the amenities many, the buildings themselves historic. And of course you will want to partake of some of the most delicious food around. There is nothing boring about Sheffield.
