Public speaking skills are important, some tips

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Business

Although public speaking ranks as one of the top phobias it is important to be able to speak and speak well in front of people.

Speaking in public demonstrates that you are confident and well adjusted, especially when it comes to a business role, that you have leadership skills.

Think about it, would you want to go into business with someone who is not well spoken and articulate?  Most likely not. Being articulate is such an important life skill and unfortunately it is not easily taught. However, there are ways for you to improve your confidence so you are ready to speak and speak well about anything that comes your way. Try a few of these tips.

A good tip is to always be very well versed on any subject matter that you plan to speak on.  Knowledge of a topic will put you at ease to speak about it better, more clearly and be more articulate.

Public speaking is all about confidence, as long as you are confident about what you are set to speak about, you will be able to speak about it with ease.

If confidence is not enough to ease your nerves, it may be helpful to create some tools to aid you along with your speech.

Making a Microsoft Power Point presentation is a great and easy way to take all the focus off of you and gives you easy access to all of your talking points. PowerPoint presentations are fairly easy to make, and if you are not well versed in computer skills ask for someone to help you out with it.

If technology is not really your bag and you want to go old school, try just writing your talking points, or just a few notes on some note cards. You can refer to them where there should be normal pauses in a speech. It will help you stay more natural and regain your train of thought if you get lost in your words.

Hey, nobody is perfect, put it never hurts to improve your skills. Public speaking is important to leadership development, and something everyone could use a little help in.

The Singapore Biennale

In terms of luxury, Singapore business hotels offer everything for the international professional, making their stay in this city rewarding and rejuvenating. The well-trained staff is prepared to anticipate every need, and the glorious accommodations are designed with the business-savvy guest in mind. Whether the needs are for heavily well-connected communication, or relative anonymity, Singapore will accommodate.

There is much to see in Singapore, from ocean to urban delight, and there is an enormously influential and growing art market and artistic presence here. Enough so to launch the Singapore Biennale, an international exposition of art in Singapore. The next one will be held in 2010, and based on the success of 2006 and 2008, this one will be a formidable challenge to the notion that there is not much going on in Asian art. It’s been an enormously radical decade for Asian art and artists, and there is little sign of it slowing down.

The phenomenon of the Biennale has taken on enormous weight in a place’s ability to presence itself in the international art scene. The Biennale is a way of making local connections to trans-local ideas and marketplaces. It establishes a place as an artistic center in its own rite, with its share of artistic production, and also as a cosmopolitan center, able to maintain and generate contact with artists and galleries all over the world. In Linz, Austria, Europe’s capital of culture for 2009 , at the OK Center, there is an exhibition called Biennale Cuvee, which represents the best of the best in world Biennale’s, and Singapore is represented here, another sign of the vibrancy and translatability of its art scene.

One of Singapore’s more outspoken and visible artist’s, Cheo Chai-Hiang has helped to provoke Singapore into re-thinking itself on an international scale, urging the painters to move from simply painting beautiful pictures toward developing complicated ideas and concepts in the art. These far-reaching ideas are part of a general movement to make deeply complex and local artistic moves that have global implications.

There is much to see in regard to the history of human interaction, but one must-see is Robben Island.  Robben Island is the notorious site for the building which held hundreds of political prisoners for decades under apartheid. South African President Nelson Mandela was here for nearly twenty years, where he could not see his family but for once every six months. Some of his most influential political thought was formulated during his incarceration here. Today, Robben Island is a World Heritage Site, and a popular attraction for locals and tourists. The history of apartheid in South Africa can be learned here, through the list of famous prisoners. In both historical relevance, and natural allure, Cape Town offers much to the international tourist .

Low-rolling Resistance Tires Can Improve Fuel Efficiency

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Automobile

Low-rolling resistance tires are tires which are designed to improve fuel efficiency of a car by minimizing the energy wasted as heat as the tire rolls down the road. Approximately 5–15% of the fuel consumed by a typical car may be used to overcome rolling resistance. A 2003 California Energy Commission (CEC) preliminary study estimated that adoption of low-rolling resistance tires could save 1.5–4.5% of all gasoline consumption.

Depending on the specific technique and materials used by the manufacturers when building tires and wheel packages, tire life may be as good as conventional tires, and traction may also be as good. A Union of Concerned Scientists (http://www.ucsusa.org/) newsletter says “LRR auto tires also meet the same federal standards for treadwear, traction, and temperature resistance as regular tires.”

Here is a list of Consumer Report’s (http://web.consumerreports.org) tires that achieved their best rolling resistance rating. The tires at the top of the list are rated higher overall.

* Highly rated:

* All Season
* Michelin X Radial
* Michelin Agility Touring
* Michelin Harmony
* Toyo 800 Ultra
* Sumitomo HTR T4

* Middle rank

* Performance All Season
* Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus
* Continental ContiPremierContact H

* Least benefit

* All Season Ultra High Performance
* General Exclaim UHP
* Continental ContiExtremeContact

Below are the light duty tires (as reported by Consumer reports) achieving their best rolling resistance rating. Again, higher overall rated tires are closer to the top of the list.

* All-season
* Bridgestone Dueler H/T D684
* Michelin Cross Terrain
* Continental ContiTrac SUV
* BFGoodrich Radial Long Trail T/A

Followed by:

* All-terrain
* Continental ContiTrac TR

How To Get Around in Paris

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Travel, Uncategorized

Paris is full of amazing sights, adventurous activities and rich history. When I’m on a Parisian jaunt, I find that I see and learn more when I stray from the beaten path overwhelmed by tourists. This is where you find the hidden gems of the city – quaint little coffee shops, secret antique stores, and private taverns, only occupied by the locals. You’ll never hear about the real, raw details of life in Paris from a tour guide. Those books only provide a glimpse of all the obvious attractions. You really discover the intricacies of the city when you look to its heart – the true city dwellers.

The Eiffel Tower is amazing, but if you really want to see what Paris has to offer, visit the Canal Saint Martin and sip some café au lait at the corner shop across the way. That is Paris.

Even though they are large events that gather lots of spectators, you should do your best to catch the French Open results and Wimbledon highlights. The French Open is located in Paris and occurs every May. Wimbledon goes on shortly after the French tournament and is set a short distance away in a London grassy suburb. Look for tickets far in advance to make sure you get the best seats possible. Tennis is just too fun to pass up!

It’s important to plan when making a trip to Europe, but it’s also important to have flexibility and let the city direct you where to go.

Dress Code for Women in Arabic Countries

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Travel

Arabs are known to be forgiving when it comes to social blunders of foreigners.  That is if the mistakes are made genuinely from ignorance and not in a malicious manner.  And while this gives one traveling a bit of leeway, it is always advised to understand the culture in which one is visiting.   One of the aspects of the Arab culture, that has any American woman what is appropriate when visiting, is dress.  What one may wear at a Dubai beach resort, may not be necessarily appropriate for the streets of the city.  Although inappropriate dress in Dubai is not considered a crime, there are certain sensibilities that the avoidance of offense will provide with a much more pleasurable visit.

There are different kinds of dress for those women that are local and those that are not.  Most Arab women dress according to customs of their religion.  This means that when they are outside of the home, most of their body must be covered.  Head to toe.  High necklines and long sleeves are definitely required, as is the covering of the hair.  Some, with especially religious spouses, must cover their hands as well.  In some regions, a conservative religious police officer may stop a woman and require her to cover her hair should she be noticed not doing so.  For the foreign woman traveling, western styles are appropriate, however only the most conservative of dress is appropriate.

The climate of most of the regions in the summer, is hot.  This may prove problematic for someone traveling from a different country, for even as the temperature heats up, the shoulders, the legs, and the arms should remain covered.  A woman’s character and virtue is called into question otherwise.  Some may even go so far as to assume that a woman wearing a skirt is a prostitute.  There are no restrictions what so ever, as to what is appropriate for girls and women to wear in their own homes, as long as no visitors are present, this includes relatives and close friends.   The city of Dubai is a modern city however, and the rules and expectations while traveling are not so strict, but these are some things to consider when traveling outside Dubai.

Exploring The City of Romance

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Europe, Uncategorized

I love visiting Paris because every time I go, I always come away with a new and exciting experience. The city is so full of passion, vibrancy and romance – it is truly a pleasure to be surrounded by all its beauty.

From the mysterious, Gothic majesty of Notre-Dame to the intricate splendor of the Pompidou Centre, the architecture is rich and grandeur. One of my absolute favorite activities to do when visiting Paris is meandering through the many museums and galleries. The famous Louvre is a spectacle for the eyes and a great way to learn more about France’s rich history. Even simply sitting at a café, drinking coffee and people watching is an experience in itself. You have to stop by a patisserie and taste the delicious bread.

Another activity I love to take part in is the French Open. Although it is hard to find tickets and the crowds can be a bit overwhelming, the thrill of watching the French Open scores is too much to pass up. If I’m lucky enough to be in Europe for so long, I am able to make a visit to the Wimbledon live tennis matches. It’s a joy to see the tennis greats battle each other on the court. Both tennis tournaments encapsulate all the opulence and fancy that Europe has to offer – and the strawberries and cream are to die for!

Paris is brimming with history, art, culture, food, shopping, and so much more. If you ever make a trip to the city of romance, the best thing you can do is simply revel in its beauty. Take time to wander around with no purpose, sit on a bench in a beautiful garden, and allow yourself to be romanced by the city of love.

Ibiza Offers More Than Party Scene

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Travel

Ibiza is one of the four largest Balearic Islands. It is the smallest of the four, but it is not short on popularity or beauty. The island is positioned in the Mediterranean Sea approximately 80 kilometers off the coast of Spain. Traditionally the island has been associated with its club party scene, due to its numerous clubs and general party atmosphere areas. While the clubs are a main attraction for numerous tourists, the government of the island is focusing on the numerous other aspects that will bring in more families and draw a greater international interest.

Because a large portion of the island is classified as UN World Heritage sites, they are protected from commercial development and market exploitation. Some of the more notable examples of this include the area known as God’s Finger in the Benirras Bay and some of the more traditional and historic cultural areas. The beauty of the Ibicenco sites draws countless artists and photographers hoping to capture and express some of the island’s beauty. It is also a popular location for filming. Sant Antoni is greatly known for its party scene, but it also has cultural landmarks to explore. There is a monument for Christopher Columbus in the city, known as The Egg.

Another feature the government would like to implement in order to draw a more diverse tourist population is requiring all new hotels to be of a 5 star status. The luxury accommodations provided by 5 star hotel Ibiza contributes to the potential relaxation and rejuvenation qualities of the island. Some of the natural tourists attractions include the beach at Es Canar. This popular beach offers some of the greatest views of the Mediterranean Sea and provides plenty of opportunities for swimming, boating and hiking. Another excellent hiking spot is the Cala de sa Galera. Planning a scenic picnic near the Puig Nuno will ensure a beautiful and relaxing afternoon.

Peranakan Culture in Singapore

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Travel

Located in Singapore, the Peranakan Museum has the goal of one day housing the largest collection of exhibits and archaeological artifacts from the Perankan culture in the world.  This will promise to become one of the most visited destinations for tourists as well locals.  Set up in boutique style, they will offer a range of experiences from the museum collection itself, to foods from the regions, and interactive displays.  The concierge at any of the Singapore boutique hotel front desks will be able to offer information on the location and the tour dates.

The culture of Peranakan is the collective culture of all the societies in South East Asia.  Many other museums focus on the culture and the effects of it on their specific region, but the newmuseum in Singapore offers the grand view.  The vast panoramic view.  This will become the first museum to represent all of the Perankan aspects, from all the regions, in one place.  The other two museums, the Baby Nonya and the Penang Musuem only exhibit that from their own local community.  Although the museum will be anchored by their vast collection of artifacts and objects, it will offer those aspects that are not so tangible.  Such as the rituals, the religion, the languages and the belief systems.

There will be 10 permanent displays, and traveling exhibits to offer looks at the way the different communities approached their world.  Lighting and design has been of utmost importance, so as to further enhance and high light the various pieces.  Interactive media shows will be combined in each of the permanent galleries, with the hopes that this will create a more rounded, a richer experience for the visitors.  There will be tour guides to answer questions and to explain the museum, as well as seminars, and demonstrations for the public as well as for the school tours.  This area of Singapore known as the Civic District will be enriched by this museum .  This area has been growing in popularity over the years, and is becoming known as the cultural hub of the city.  Many restaurants and shops will open as well, offering more of the Peranakan culture to be enjoyed by all.
